The one build you want finished before winter

Cold frame, coop insulation, a goat shelter, a root cellar. What are you building, or trying to get finished, before the weather turns?

Half-done counts. Photos are welcome, and so are questions if you’re stuck on something.

Good question to put out there — this time of year the list always feels longer than the daylight.

For me, the build I keep coming back to before first frost is a solid cold frame. Even a simple one — old windows laid over a timber box — buys you weeks on either end of the season, and if you get the angle right it sheds snow without fussing.

A close second is getting any waterer situation buttoned up before the freeze-and-thaw cycle starts cracking things apart. Nothing like discovering a split nipple waterer in January.

What’s on your list right now — is it a new build from scratch, or finishing something that got stalled out over summer?
